HOMEWORK POLICY
January - June
We are reminding the Grade 6 students of the importance of completing their school work with attention and on time. Students are responsible for ensuring that their homework assignments are clearly noted in their agendas, and that all assignments are returned to school when due. Strengthening organizational skills is an important element in being a successful student.
Parents have already been advised of the Grade 6 agenda communication policy – that parents are expected to review their child’s agenda nightly and indicate this with an initial or signature. This ongoing communication process helps keep parents aware of daily assignments, upcoming project and test dates.
Being fully prepared each day, taking responsibility, and learning to be accountable for missed work starting from now will make the transition to Grade 7 more manageable. In preparation for Grade 7, the following practices will be implemented in January:
-
Students will not be granted time at the recesses to complete homework or assignments which are currently due or past-due. Only students needing extra help as determined by the teacher will be staying in to work with the teacher during recess(es).
-
Consequences for Late Assignments will be applied as follows: Assignments to be marked that are handed in up to five school days late will be penalized by a loss of 20% off the initially available points. A mark of 0 will be recorded for any assignment that is more than 5 school days late. Students are not penalized over weekends, holidays or in-service days.
-
Should a student not have completed an assigned item of homework, the teacher will expect that student to inform their parent(s) of the incident, whether by email (with a cc. to the teacher) or by agenda note (to also be initialed by the teacher before the student goes home that day).
We thank you for your cooperation with this initiative to enable students to mature in their academic programming and prepare for their soon to be future in Grade 7.
